Welcome back to Christian Sports Insider! This week, after a long battle with leukemia, legendary sports broadcaster Craig Sager passed away. As I was thinking back on my memories of Sager, I was reminded not only of his colorful suits but also of the genuine excitement he displayed during every one of his reports and interviews. Whether it was one of his famous in-game interviews with Gregg Popovich or a routine postgame report, you could tell he really enjoyed his job. I believe Christians can learn a valuable lesson from the life of Craig Sager. He found joy and fulfillment in his daily life, in something as simple as the game of basketball. It is so easy to rely on the next thing we buy or the next good grade or job report to bring us joy and happiness. However, as Christians, we have a reason to be joyful each day. Each time we wake up, we know God has given us another day and another opportunity to make a difference for His kingdom. We know that we have been freed from the bondage of sin, and we will one day spend eternity in Heaven. I thought this was a good time for this reminder, especially as we go throughout this Christmas season. During this time of year, we are bombarded with commercials advertising an object that is supposedly the “next big thing” that will satisfy our deepest desires. As hard as it may be, let us not fall into that trap. Rather, let us follow in the footsteps of Craig Sager, finding happiness in our daily lives as we enjoy the freedom that Christ has given us. What are your thoughts? Be sure to let me know!
