Welcome back to Christian Sports Insider! Just a few days ago, Ben Simmons, the first overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, had surgery to repair a broken bone in his right foot. The Sixers have yet to announce how long he will be on the bench. As soon as I saw this on Sportscenter, I was extremely saddened. I can’t imagine how Simmons must be feeling right now. As sad as this may be, I do feel that Christians can learn an important lesson from this situation. We live in a fallen world. Bad things happen. We never know what tomorrow will bring. As a result, should we not take time each day to thank God for our blessings? We may not have the ability to play professional basketball, but a cars or a job is certainly an example of a blessing from God. They are gifts that we are given, and gifts that could easily be taken away. However, that doesn’t mean that Christians should live in a state of fear and worry. Romans 8:28 promises that God has a plan for us, no matter the trials we may face. I don’t know if Ben Simmons is finding comfort in that promise, but I do wish him a speedy recovery.
